Microvi Receives 2017 Business Innovation Award and 2017 Environmental Award
May 16, 2017 – Microvi was awarded two prestigious awards from the City of Hayward, the company announced today. The 2017 Business Innovation Award ceremony took place on May 9, while the award ceremony for the 2017 Environmental Award took place on May 16.
The awards follow Microvi’s win of the 2017 East Bay Innovation Award in the clean tech category.
The 2017 Business Innovation Award recognized area businesses who have contributed most to the city’s economy and culture of innovation. The plaque, featuring a 3-D printed design selected from submission by 30 local high school students, was presented by Hayward Mayor Barbara Halliday.
The 2017 Environmental Award was awarded to business, schools and non-profit organizations committed to sustainability in the areas of waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation and environmental education. The award followed a competitive judging process and site visit by city staff.
“The past several months has been a tremendous time for Microvi,” said Dr. Fatemeh Shirazi, Microvi’s CEO. “Our team was excited to receive these awards as recognition for our progress in innovative research and environmental sustainability, and introducing novel economic solutions for our 21st century challenges.”
