Dr. Shirazi is an internationally recognized veteran of the industrial biotechnology industry with more than 20 years of experience in industrial bioconversions. She has served as Microvi’s CEO since 2008. Under her leadership, Microvi closed several rounds of investment, completed manufacturing scale-up, and established numerous customers and strategic partnerships. Further, Dr. Shirazi pioneered the MicroNiche Engineering™ platform as a new class of waste-free, high performance biological technologies that form the basis of Microvi’s commercial activities. Microvi's MNE platform is protected by dozens of patents awarded and pending. Previously, Dr. Shirazi worked at Black & Veatch specializing in water technologies and held executive positions in startup companies, including VP of Technology, CTO and CEO. In 2001, she received the prestigious Jack Edward McKee Medal for her achievements in groundwater protection, restoration, or sustainable use, and has since served as an expert reviewer for the EPA and the NIH. Dr. Shirazi graduated from the University of Tulsa with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and earned a M.S and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering with Honors from Oklahoma State University.
